Opal's Farm is a five acre urban farm in Fort Worth, Texas, started by the "Grandmother of Juneteenth," Opal Lee. It aims to provide fresh food, jobs, and other benefits to its community. The farm is part of Unity Unlimited, Inc.
We had a wonderful experience at Opal Lee’s Farm! Everyone was friendly! They had a variety of quality, hands-on learning experiences. This method of teaching is excellent! They were accommodating and made it fun for the kids! We got to learn about so many things such as composting and pollination! Due to the wind, one of the arts and crafts activities was too challenging to do, so they let us take the materials home with us! It was awesome to see, touch and taste the vegetables as we could pick them right from the ground. It was very memorable and we can’t wait to return as volunteers. We also hope to meet Ms. Opal Lee sometime!
When we first arrived, I thought it might be a wasted field trip day because the farm appeared so small. Boy was I wrong! My children (8, 8, 11) and I had a blast learning about composting, planting our own potted seeds, weeding, planting on the farm, tasting vegetables right out of the dirt, and listening to Grandma Opal!! The staff is beyond knowledgeable, so friendly, fun and entertaining. We'd love to go back. This is a hidden gem right by the Trinity River.
