Hill Country

Texas Hill Country is a rolling grassland that sits on the Edwards Plateau. The rock of this plateau has eroded over the millenia, leading to springs, steep canyons, caves and hidden underground lakes. Hill Country also includes large granite domes or uplifted areas, some of which have a deep history as sacred places for Native Americans who inhabited the area centuries ago. Wooded areas in this region are mostly oak and juniper, and soils are laden with course textured sands from the weathered granite.

Hill Country is also famous for its cultural focus on local food, sustainable farming practices, and diversity of tourist attractions. Beef cattle, goats, milo, sheep and wheat are common on farms in this region.
