Join rancher Megan LaPointe for a four-hour cheesemaking workshop in Bowie on Sunday, November 10. Megan has been one of DFW’s most popular market vendors, and is known for her regenerative methods and high-quality meat, dairy and eggs.

There are only 6 spots available in this workshop, which will focus on hard cheese, and include samples for you to try. The class uses raw milk from the farm’s cows, as sold from point of production under Texas law.

Hands-on Cheesemaking Workshop for Farmhouse Cheddar (Hard Cheese)

This hands-on experience is for ages 12 and up and ideal for adventuresome foodies seeking the story and process behind local food. It is also appropriate for families looking to make memories together, homesteaders learning about small-scale production, or anyone curious about the people and animals who make your favorite fromage.

In addition to learning how to make farmhouse cheddar, you’ll also discuss details about how to set up your own cheese cave. A cheese cave is a place with high humidity and a cool temperature used for aging and preserving cheese, and it’s critical for anyone who wants to regularly make their own cheese.

Learn to Make Cheese at Your Home

The experience starts at 2 pm with an overview of cheesemaking and the required equipment and supplies. Participants will then walk through the go through a step by step process of making the cheese by hand from scratch. By the end of the class you will know how to make fresh farmhouse cheddar under the direction of a master cheesemaker with opportunities for hands-on work by the class.

The class aims to prepare you to make cheeses at your home, so bring a notebook and take notes as the class proceeds.

Meet the Herd

After the class, you will have a chance to meet the dairy animals in person and hear more about their lives on the farm. Come prepared for outdoor weather and walking if you wish to join this portion of the class.
