Lacto-fermentation Workshop 10/13/24

Bowie, Texas

Join rancher Megan LaPointe for a four-hour lacto-fermentation workshop in Bowie on Sunday, October 13. Megan has been one of DFW’s most popular market vendors, and is known for her regenerative methods and high-quality meat, dairy and eggs.

There are only 6 spots available in this workshop, which will teach you how to use lacto-fermentation at home to produce a variety of preserved foods, and include samples for you to try.

Hands-on Lacto-fermentation Workshop

Megan will walk you through the process of using lactic acid bacteria to preserve food.

Lacto-fermentation, or Lactic Acid Fermentation, involves either submerging vegetables and fruits in a brine solution (made of salt and water) or salting them enough to release their own water and create their own brine.

This hands-on experience is for ages 12 and up and ideal for adventuresome foodies seeking the story and process behind local food. It is also appropriate for families looking to make memories together, homesteaders learning about small-scale production, or anyone curious about the science of food.

Learn to Ferment Foods at Home

The experience starts at 2 pm with an overview of lactofermentation and the required equipment and supplies. Participants will then walk through the go through a step by step process of making the preserved goods by hand from scratch. By the end of the class you will know how to preserve a variety of foods under the direction of a master homesteader with opportunities for hands-on work by the class.

The class aims to prepare you to preserve food at your home, so bring a notebook and take notes as the class proceeds.

Meet the Herd

After the class, you will have a chance to meet the ranch animals in person and hear more about their lives on the farm. Come prepared for outdoor weather and walking if you wish to join this portion of the class.
