Learn how to milk a goat, get to know the wonders of the luffa plant, and see how one Texas farm lives in harmony with people, plants, animals, and pollinators. This farm tour and milking demonstration in Aurora, Texas, offers learners a hands-on memorable experience and way to connect with nature and local farmers.

Your Experience at the Farm

Nature’s Circle is both a Monarch Butterfly Waystation registered with the nonprofit Monarch Watch and certified Bee Friendly by the nonprofit Pollinator Partnership. This innovative farm, specializes in local, unique, farm goods and art, and is located in Aurora, Texas, at the northwest corner of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Your experience will start with a short tour of the farm, including meeting the friendly Lamancha dairy goats, guinea fowl, and getting a look at innovative horizontal bee hives (from a distance).

Next you will gather in the barn to learn about animal husbandry and see a goat milking demonstration. You will also have the opportunity to try your hand at milking. At the end of the experience, each participant will receive a blue ribbon to take home, telling your friends ‘I Milked A Dairy Goat’.

Following the milking, you will gather on the densely tree-covered outdoor deck to discuss how this farm continually innovates, discovering new ways to use the land and its resources.  Learn about using pollinator-friendly native plants adapted for the North Texas climate and the symbiotic relationship between plants, animals and insects.

The experience lasts about 90 minutes, depending on the questions and interests of the group.

20+ Years of Luffa Love

The farm’s Lamancha dairy goats love to eat luffa, and it helps keep them healthy and hydrated. The farm owners use the goat milk to produce dog treats, soaps and more.

Natures Circle has been growing luffa for over 20 years and loves sharing their expertise with visitors. Luffa is grown around the world and offers a variety of uses, including skin exfoliation, sinus treatments, and shingle treatments. It’s also an eco-friendly superstar, as every part of the plant can be used, and its flower is a major provider of pollen, a protein source for the baby bees.

Little-known fact: Cats, rabbits, and chinchillas also love luffa. The farm owners first noticed luffa’s appeal to animals when their cat RB started playing with the plans, so they started designing cat toys, and have been selling the toys to local shops since the early 2000s. They named their company Luv a Luffa and appointed RB as the CEO (Cat Executive Officer and Product Developer)! Over the years, the farm’s luffa products have grown to include luffa scrubs, soaps, diffusers, cat toys, ChiDamaLuffa and luffa farm art and awards. If you’re interested in learning more about the innovative plant-wrapping technique created at this farm, consider booking a ChiDamaLuffa Plant Art Workshop and farm tour.

Luffa will flower all the way up to the first frost, so it is an important food source for bees, especially during late Summer and Fall when flower sources can be scarce. In fact, the farm partners with a local beekeeper to fantastic honey, creamed honey, soaps and more.

Deb and George Terrell moved to Aurora, Texas, in 2000 to start farming and began researching the many uses and benefits of luffa. Their cat RB started playing with luffa, which led them to designing cat toys out of luffa, then selling the cat toys in local shops.

In 2013 they were approached by a local beekeeper at a farmer’s market, who said they needed bees to pollinate the lovely luffa flowers. They learned that bees love luffa and a delicious tasting honey results, which began the journey into bees.

The farm is certified both “Bee Friendly” and as a Monarch Butterfly Way Station, promoting the growing of luffa and other pollinator-friendly plants to help the bees.

In 2014, a soap artisan asked if they would be interested in dairy goats. After much thought, the first LaMancha Dairy Goats joined the team at the farm. In 2016, they received a Texas Commercial Food License and started baking Chatty’s Gourmet Dog Treats in their home kitchen. Their dog treats are made from the goat cheese they produce
.
In 2018, the farm rebranded as Nature’s Circle to encompass it's suite of farm products.

Today, Nature’s Circle is an innovative farm that specializes in local, unique farm goods and art, focused on learning new ways to best utilize the land and its resources. The farm welcomes visitors to learn about their piece of the world and share their journey through Texas agriculture.
