Nature walk learning about medicinal plants

Glen Rose, Texas

Enjoy the great outdoors on a kid-friendly, guided nature walk in the beautiful Texas countryside near Fossil Rim.  This active 2+ mile hike is ideal for homeschoolers, families, social groups, or anyone else interested in Texas plants and enjoys being outside. Depending on the group, the length of the nature walk and time can vary up to a maximum of 3 hours.

Your guide is the ranch owner, who will teach you about native Texas plant species, emphasizing those that have known medicinal uses.  This beautiful north Texas ranch is adjacent to Fossil Rim, an area of natural biodiversity, and a habitat for many native Texas species. You and your friends or family can see the special geologic features associated with this area, while learning about native medicinal plants.

Your host will share with you the history of this beautiful ranch, as you hike in the Texas countryside.  This ranch practices a unique biodynamic agriculture method which respects the spirit within every plant and animal it tends. Biodynamics not only honors life but also brings more intentionality and spirit into the work they do, including planting/tending to animals with the moon and planet cycles, creating biodynamic preparations and spreading them out in the garden/on the land, and creating biodynamic compost.

This is a special opportunity to learn about native Texas plants, celebrate natural biological diversity, and to engage in the world around you.  Please wear hiking boots or equivalent footwear, and bring your own water bottle, hat and sunscreen.  Expect moderate level hiking.  The group size for this event is a minimum of 10 with a maximum of 50 participants.  Group bookings for less than the minimum number may be asked to reschedule if minimums cannot be met for the date selected.

High Hope Ranch

High Hope Ranch was donated to the biodynamic organization, Living Lands Trust, in 2022. As partnering stewards of these lands, they conduct the growth of all agriculture under biodynamic standards. They are currently seeking Demeter Certification for all of our edible and herbal products.

They raise their food with the utmost respect and care for the spirits within every plant and animal. Biodynamics not only honors life but also brings more intentionality and spirit into the work they do. Some of this includes planting/tending to animals with the moon and planet cycles, creating biodynamic preparations and spreading them out in the garden/on the land, and creating biodynamic compost.
