Sunset tour at innovative Bowie homestead

Bowie, Texas

Enjoy an evening in the country, pet cute animals, and learn about local food. This sunset tour in Bowie takes place at Reviving Real Foods Ranch, a Texas homestead practicing regenerative farming and expanding its operations to also include a farm-based distillery/brewery/winery. The ranch includes a wide variety of animals and sells meat, eggs, and dairy at multiple DFW farmers markets.

The homestead owner will conduct your tour of the farm, which specializes in regenerative farming methods including rotational grazing, and in cheese production using dwarf breeds of goats and cows. Driven by a quest to improve their own health, the homestead family has developed a variety of techniques to restore soils, minimize risk of parasites, and allow for more natural food production.

On this 1-hour tour, you’ll meet animals including cows, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and pigs in fenced areas. You’ll also walk along the paddocks and will likely meet the dogs, and possibly the infamous Chaos the Goat. The tour timing will change slightly during the year to accommodate changes in daylight, but generally starts the hour before sunset.

Make your tour a farm-to-table dining experience by adding on a bowl of the ranch’s famous soups for $13.50 per bowl – specific types will be confirmed upon booking based on current inventory. If adding this option, make sure to include how many bowls you’d like to order for your group. You can also preorder the ranch’s popular heirloom popcorn with coconut oil and local butter, available in gallon-sized bags for $10 each.

Long pants and boots are recommended for this experience. This tour involves a significant amount of walking, but can accommodate those needing to walk more slowly. All ages welcome, though parents must closely supervise children 10 and under. Carried babies are free. This tour can accommodate larger groups, so schools or organizations are welcome.

Filtered well water is available, and at the end of the tour you can also stock up on eggs, meat, diary, and their famous frozen soups (purchased separately onsite).  Larger groups can request additional food or beverage options to be prepared onsite for additional fees, but requests must be made and confirmed in advance.

We really enjoyed our experience out on the farm with Megan & Kyle. They were very welcoming, friendly & had lots of really great information to share with us about how they manage their land & animals in the most regenerative, humane and healthy way possible. We got lucky and had the most perfect weather. The air felt so much more fresh out there than in the city. I fell in love with the baby goat & even got to bottle feed one. Megan & Kyle served us their farm to table soups & breakfast bowls which were both fantastic! My husband and I dream to have a place like this to call our own one day!

From the moment I step into the farm, Kyle and Megan were very friendly. They shared their expertise and experienced they had taking care of the different animals on the farm. The variety is there, they have sheep, goats, horses, cows, chickens, pigs, turkeys and maybe one more I’m forgetting. I learned from their experience about electric fences and how the rotational grazing they’re practicing benefits both the animals and the soil. If you want to learn more about all these great topics, I would highly recommend you visit them.

We loved our experience!! We chose the rotational grazing “field trip” the kids fully enjoyed it. We got to pet the pigs, sheeps, even horses! The animals were very accepting and gentle with us. The farmers were extremely nice and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend taking a trip to your local farmers through one of these courses!!

Reviving Real Foods Ranch is located on 75 acres in picturesque rolling hills of the old Oak Savannahs of North Texas. All animals and food are grown using sustainable and restorative practices, grass fed and pasture raised.

The farm is also working to add a new addition with the Texas Foothills Distillery/Brewery/Winery. Leftover water will go to the animals and spent grains will be fed to the pigs, allowing all products to stay on site.
