Young Gardeners Workshop: Field Trip in McKinney

Students become young scientists by observing, exploring, inquiring, gathering data, problem-solving and using age-appropriate tools to investigate the natural world. Our goal is to stimulate a desire in all students to explore and increase their knowledge, and understanding of the natural world around them, while building foundational science, art and critical thinking skills.

During this 1.5 hour experience, children participate in the following activities:

Find the Herbs! – A Scavenger Hunt

  • Develop sensory, observational and critical thinking skills through a herb identification scavenger hunt involving tips and clues based on the structural, sensory and utilitarian elements of herbs.

What are the Parts of a Flower?

  • A botanical adventure involving a deep dive into the amazingly intricate structure of flowers.
  • This workshop is intended to incite wonder and excitement by encouraging children to observe and label plant parts using descriptive words that communicate their color, shape, and reference to other objects, while also introducing them to the scientific aspects of floral anatomy.
  • Students will pick and dissect a flower, observe its 5 main parts and label them with descriptive and technical names.

A Foray into Floral Art

  • In this segment of the workshop, we encourage artistic expression through the medium of flowers.
Students pick their own flowers and use them to create a piece of art in the form of a floral arrangement or wearable floral art (flower crown, necklace, bracelet, etc.)

Ticket price is $15 per participant ages 3 and up  Ticket price includes the event, activities, and flowers to take home.

The owner of Flori Kulture Gardens has an intimate knowledge of every flower and plant they carry, what it takes to grow them and what it takes to care for them so they continue to bring you joy long after they hand them over to you.

They are wholeheartedly committed to teaching and passing on knowledge of what plants, food and flowers thrive in our North Texas climate, and how to build beautiful and sustainable kitchen and cut-flower gardens in your own backyard.

They are a “sustainable first” business. This means their plants are sown and grown in our McKinney & Celina gardens where they employ organic, regenerative farming practices, or they are sourced from trusted local partners with a similar ethos. Flori Kulture Gardens is on a purposeful journey to spread joy and a spirit of community through floriculture.
