Product Description
Learn why backyard quail are a great alternative to chickens for urban farms during this tour in Fort Worth, Texas. See how this experienced urban quail farmer uses her large backyard to produce quail birds and eggs. Get a bit of the history of these small, prolific layers, and hear how Quail Haven’s owner learned over time which breed works best for her farm. She’ll share her lessons learned, and you can touch and pet the quail. Children must be closely supervised but also can pet the birds, and will even have a chance to help collect eggs from the quail pens.
The farm owner will discuss cooking with quail eggs, including how to adapt recipes traditionally made with chicken eggs. You will also have a chance to try Quail Haven’s house specialty quail-egg crackers (included in booking price).
This hour-long tour is primarily designed for those who are interested in raising quail for either meat or egg production for their family on their own property. However it may also be suitable for a quail-curious general audience, including homesteaders, homeschool field trips, church groups, or others. All ages welcome; children under 10 must be closely supervised. Children under 2 are free. Tour groups limited to 8 people – larger groups may be accommodated but require additional discussion.
Since quails lay eggs regularly, they are great birds for teaching kids animal husbandry by collecting eggs, feeding the birds, and learning the habits of your family’s own quail flock.
Eggs and crackers available for purchase; quantities available will depend on current supply.
NOTE: This tour is currently not available for public booking. If you are interested in learning about quail, contact support@delveexperiences.com to discuss further.
