Mushroom Street Farms Urban Cultivators grows gourmet and medicinal mushrooms in an urban micro-farm with a high-tech lab located in the suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth Texas. What started as a family COVID project has now sprouted into a full-fledged clean room, green house, and retail offerings – co-located with the family’s other business of a web design firm. This temperature-controlled tour located in the metroplex can be a great option for those seeking activities during hot or cold weather days or looking for something relatively close to home.
Mushroom Street specializes in connecting with everyday chefs to the nuanced flavors and diverse uses of this favorite fungus. You’ll see the growing process from spawn to mycelium to fruiting, including how this farm makes its own substrate. You can pick up tips to try at home or in your classroom. Or you can take home one of their variety of mushroom-powder-based spices, rubs, or dried mushrooms, along with recipe suggestions.
Tours are generally Wednesdays and Thursdays for groups up to 30 people. Discounts available for children and seniors. Note: This tour is has limited availability for spring 2024 as Mushroom Street expands its greenhouses. Tours must be a minimum of 10 people; groups that are smaller than this may be rescheduled to an alternate time slot to ensure the minimum is met.
