Kids ages 8+ and their families are invited to a special tour of Mushroom Street mushroom farm in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, August 8 at 2 pm. This is an indoor learning experience and fun activity for families with kids out of school and looking for something to do, or friends or couples looking for a novel outing. Discounts offered for children 8-12 and seniors age 65+. Participants will explore the journey of mushrooms, from cultivation to consumption, highlighting the eco-friendly and health benefits of Mushroom Street’s urban farming practices.
Mushroom farm magic
Mushroom Street Farms Urban Cultivators grows gourmet and medicinal mushrooms in an urban micro-farm with a high-tech lab located in the suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth Texas. What started as a family COVID project has now sprouted into a full-fledged clean room, green house, and retail offerings – co-located with the family’s other business of a web design firm. Mushroom Street specializes in connecting with everyday chefs to the nuanced flavors and diverse uses of this favorite fungus.
Public tour for ages 8+
Participants will learn about the history of the farm, how mushrooms are grown, and see a variety of mushrooms in the farm’s greenhouses. You will also be able to ask questions of the mushroom farm staff, who will customize the tour to engage a the specific audience. A group of up to 30 people can be accommodated. This is an indoor tour, so no concerns about the weather.
Participants will see the growing process from spawn to mycelium to fruiting, including how this farm makes its own substrate. Pick up tips to try at home or in your classroom. You can also take home one of their variety of mushroom-powder-based spices, rubs, or dried mushrooms, along with recipe suggestions.
Please note: The first few minutes of the experience will be dedicated to check-in and introductions. Visitors arriving more than 10 minutes after the tour start time will miss key introductory content.
