Spend a Saturday morning playing with NEWBORN adorable and Valais Blacknose Sheep at a real working ranch in Burleson. As a bonus, you’ll be able to see 2 new Gypsy Horse foals also born this month! This memorable experience runs 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, March 16, and is for ages 18 and up. It’s perfect for a novel date for couples, a fun spring outing with a friend, or firsthand education for anyone who want to learn more about raising sheep.
As Registrar of the Valais Blacknose Sheep Registry, rancher Linda Brown is pleased to share the history of this “World’s Cutest Sheep” breed. There are very few Valais in Texas, so this is a very special offering. Valais were originally from Switzerland and then brought through the UK and New Zealand.
These sheep are extremely rare – so rare, in fact, that the US Department of Agriculture doesn’t allow importing of any sheep. A Wizard’s Spell Ranch participates in a “breed up” program, and you’ll also learn more about how this works during your time at the ranch. You’ll interact with the sheep, as well as learn about their incredible wool and its uses, including seeing the ranch’s wool studio and some of its creations.
This experience will be focused on hands-on time with the sheep, beginning with a safety briefing and discussion of how to raise sheep, and lots of time for cuddles with the babies. Bring your lunch and drinks, and enjoy a picnic at the table under the trees watching the animals being adorable.
But you will also get a chance to see some of the other incredible animals around. In addition to the sheep, the ranch also imports and raises Gypsy Horses, both full size and the latest exotic Mini Gypsies, from the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland, and their babies are born here in Texas each Spring. The owner works directly with Romani Traveller people of the UK and Ireland to import these beautiful horses, known for their calm temperament, long manes, and full feathered feet. And, to top off your experience, there will be three Tibetan Yaks wandering around and likely showing off their antics.
The event takes place inside the barn so will be held rain or shine. Your participation in this event helps support this ranch’s Veterans and Others Therapy Program, which has been running for 12 years. We thank you for your support.
Note: Cell phones and cameras must be stowed during your time on the ranch, however you will be provided with plenty of free pictures of your time with the animals.
Discount available for bringing partners or friends! $40 for each person sharing a car with at least one other person; $65 if coming alone in one car.
