A Place to Reflect: Hospitality, Healing, and Land Stewardship at Sister Grove Farm

Local Guides

A North Texas farm experience where reflection, restoration, and reconnection happen naturally.

There’s a quiet kind of magic at Sister Grove Farm. You’ll notice it as you walk through restored prairie grasses, past mobile chicken coops, and beneath the massive American elm tree that anchors the land.

Located just north of Dallas in Van Alstyne, this 149-acre working farm is more than just a place to learn about regenerative agriculture. It’s a space to reflect, to reconnect—with the land, with others, and sometimes even with yourself.

Whether you’re planning a field trip, looking for a peaceful group outing, or simply want to walk somewhere that feels real, Sister Grove offers an experience that welcomes all—without pressure, pretense, or perfection.

Where History Meets Healing

Sister Grove Farm sits on land with deep roots: ancestral homelands of the Wichita people and a farmhouse dating back to 1859. But the story unfolding here is about renewal.

Over the past decade, Sarah and Rodney Macias have worked to restore the native Blackland Prairie and build a regenerative grazing system that supports soil health and biodiversity. Their work is deeply informed by a sense of care—for people, for animals, and for place.

But this isn’t a polished “farm attraction.” This is a living, breathing farm—complete with working animals, hands-on tours, and time to ask big questions. For many visitors, that’s what makes it so memorable.

For Families, Educators, and Curious Minds

Sister Grove experiences are designed to meet people where they are. You don’t need to know anything about farming or prairie restoration to feel welcome here.

  1. Educators and homeschool groups will find rich connections to science, history, sustainability, and even civics.
  2. Families and co-ops enjoy the chance to be together in a space that’s both educational and restorative.
  3. Adult groups often come away surprised by how grounding it feels to simply walk the land.

The experience doesn’t rush you—and that’s part of what makes it memorable. The pace, the people, and the place all invite you to slow down and reconnect.

Why It Works

There’s no rigid schedule or loud signage here. Instead, Sister Grove provides:

  1. Space to slow down
  2. People who genuinely care
  3. Land that’s been carefully stewarded
  4. Programs that adjust to your group’s needs

You can come for an hour or stay for the day. You’ll leave with dirt on your shoes, a better understanding of where your food comes from, and maybe even a little more breathing room in your life.
