Farm Tours, Workshops, Field Trips, Tastings - and More!
At Delve, we work in this thing called "agritourism," so we spend a lot of time thinking about it. You probably haven't used those words ... but chances are good you've done it anyway.
Farm tours, cheesemaking classes, field trips, honey tastings, farm-to-table dining that builds community around local food ... these are some of the core types of agritourism activities that we work to make easier to find and book.
How the Smart Folks Define Agritourism
Taking it from the Ph.D. folks (who we work closely with), agritourism can also include things like "agritainment" (think amusement parks that are set on farms, with bounce pillows and corn mazes), hunting and fishing, farmers markets, weekend retreats, and more.
If you're curious to know more, we recommend checking out this article in the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development, which outlines types of agritourism and their relevance to everyday farm activities.
We Focus on Farm-Based Education
At Delve, we focus on the core activities of agritourism, primarily those that fall under the "Education" part of that scholarly framework. Why? Because we think these types of activities are what best connect the public and farms to grow social good.
We love the feeling of learning new things about our food and the people who produce it. We love seeing our connections and impacts through food chains, and exploring human connections with animals and the earth.
We want to support the people who work so hard to put food on all our plates, and we want you to know their stories, too.
Exploring a World of Agritourism
In the US, agritourism mostly takes place on small farms that actively produce food and everyday goods.
Now, we know that agritourism can mean a whole lot more than just our focus or what we see around us, especially depending especially on where you are in the world. Different food cultures, agricultural traditions, rural lifestyles, and vacation preferences result in unique agritourism experiences in each part of the planet.
Part of why we love doing this is because we like to explore what agritourism means in different countries and cultures ... we think you might enjoy it, too! Come along with us to explore fun and learning at local farms - near and far. We hope to one day be the tool you use to book cool adventures not only down the road but also when you're planning vacations far and wide.
There is no better way to learn a place than with the people who produce from it.
