About Agritourism

Studies show that women are at the forefront of agritourism, and driving an increasing share of agriculture in general.

The number of women in agriculture has been growing steadily, and in the most recent federal Census of Agriculture showed the United States crossing a tipping point, with over half of all farms having at least one female decision maker.

But not only are there more women farmers, they are more likely to be involved in the growing field of agritourism. A 2019/2020 survey of over 1,800 farms participating in agritourism indicated that a majority of these operations were led by women. The survey also suggested these women tended to be experienced, from smaller farms, and more likely to focus on education, entertainment and events than other areas of agritourism.

This trend is not just happening in the United States. Studies from Peru, Italy, South Africa and France have also shown that agritourism can provide increasing economic opportunities and personal or professional development for women who have traditionally been limited to more domestic or family business roles. Worldwide and US data also show that entire communities benefit when women have opportunities to engage in agriculture and alternate revenue streams.

At Delve we’re excited to help support opportunities for women farmers at large and right here at home in Texas. Browse through our listings to support women farmers in agritourism.
