Think mushrooms are just something that show up on pizza? Step inside an indoor microfarm in Arlington and you’ll see a whole new world—where science, food, and fun all come together.

Every Friday, Mushroom Street Farm opens its doors for a guided tour that visitors call “one of the best days of my kids’ lives.” Whether you’re a curious foodie, a homeschool parent, or just looking for a unique outing, this 90-minute experience is an easy way to explore how fungi shape our world.

What You’ll See on the Tour

From sterile lab to fruiting chamber, this tour takes you through each stage of the mushroom life cycle. Along the way, you’ll discover:

  1. How mushrooms grow from spore to harvest
  2. The tools and techniques behind small-scale urban farming
  3. Ways to cook with dried mushrooms, rubs, and spice blends
  4. How fungi recycle waste into food—and why that matters for sustainability

Unlike many farm visits, this one is entirely indoors, so it runs rain or shine.

Why Visitors Love It

Guests consistently describe the tour as welcoming, engaging, and eye-opening:

  1. “So much more than we expected. Very interesting! They’ll be talking about it for a long time.” – Dona K.
  2. “One of the best days of my 11-year-old’s life. The staff were great with kids and their passion was obvious.” – Emalie A.
  3. “The mushroom jerky sample was delicious! We drove from Dallas and are so glad we did.” – Nancy F.
  4. “Our guide was so personable it was like an old friend. Even my non-mushroom-loving daughter is now willing to try new recipes.” – Emily B.
