Nepal meets Texas for Afternoon Tea at Fieldsong Farm in Lucas on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Nishchal Banskota, founder of the Nepal Tea Collective will conduct a guided tea tasting of artisan, small batch teas from Nepal. Participants of this event are supporting both local regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming operations abroad, all through an unforgettable experience in DFW.

2 Agricultural Worlds in 1 Event

This extraordinary, one-time event joins two agricultural worlds together across the globe. Fieldsong Farm is a staple in the local farming community and promotes conservation, regeneration, and sustainability of the land and the environment. Nepal Tea Collective teas are organic teas produced in small batches that reflect the artistry of the teamakers, as well as the terroir and season of each tea.

Nishchal will guide the tea tasting as well as give backgrounds on farmers, tea makers and geography. Nepal Tea Collective’s business model is unique to the tea industry in its look to the future, in the ethical treatment of farmers and tea artisans, and the sustainability and conservation of the land.

Afternoon Tea on the Farm

Guests will enjoy the tea tasting with traditional tea offerings of savory finger foods, scones and  sweets. The look of a formal tea (tablecloths, napkins, china) sets the mood. Spring is incredibly beautiful at Fieldsong, and this is the only farm in North Texas to offer Afternoon Tea.

After the tea, guests can visit with Nishchal, purchase organic Nepal Tea Collective Teas, and get more information on guided tours of Nepal with the Collective.

Fieldsong Farm

Stephanie and Richard Schertz "came home" to their 13 acres in Lucas, Texas, in the summer of 2013. Starting with just overgrazed land, they built everything - fences, barns, water, electricity and a house. Stephanie, an agronomist, put her lifelong passions for conservation, sustainability and regeneration to work, enriching the soil, growing grass in pastures, and establishing a tallgrass prairie wildflower meadow. The goats moved to the farm in the summer of 2014; chickens were added in 2017.

With family roots in farming, both Stephanie and Richard have lived with gardens since childhood. Organic or all-natural production was an easy choice. "Mostly we found mechanical ways to solve our problems, plus we didn't want to harm the birds, bees and butterflies." Farm and community activities are important. The Farm has its own beauty and serenity that they wanted to share through camping, volunteering, events, a farmstand, and pick-your-own days. Stephanie is a founding member of the Lucas Farmers Market Committee.

Ultimately, the couple wants to produce healthy, delicious food, educate the community as to how food is produced and demonstrate the seasonality of crops grown in North Texas. They are known for their popular afternoon teas on the farm, as well as for their tours that can be customized for people with all sorts of abilities.
