The People of DelveGrowing More Than Food: The Heart of Ridglea Giving Garden

🪴 A Garden That Gives Back

Tucked into a west Fort Worth neighborhood, Ridglea Giving Garden is exactly what it sounds like— a space where neighbors grow fresh produce not just for themselves but for others.

🌿 Roots & Mission

Located on a quarter-acre lot, the garden is hosted by Ridglea Christian Church as a community service and launched in January 2024. Its mission is ‘to cultivate a community gardening space to produce healthy food for our neighbors in need, regenerate Earth’s resources, and provide gardening education."

When you visit with Delve, you’ll find more than rows of vegetables: a living classroom where children turn soil and ideas at the same time, families taste new foods straight from the vine, and every visitor leaves with fresh curiosity.

✨ A 10/10 Field Trip Day

“This was such an incredible hands-on experience! We loved every moment—from the composting lesson to enjoying the fruit of our labor. It took a minute for my little one to warm up, but by the end she was all in. Highly recommend for everyone.”

— Dazie Diaz, homeschooling parent

That kind of transformation—cautious to confident—happens here every week. Whether you join a garden demo or book a full field trip, Ridglea connects people to growing spaces with intention and care.

👨‍🏫 Meet Your Guide: Joey Hughes

Every program is led by educator and community grower Joey Hughes, whose blend of science, storytelling, and sustainability turns gardening into an accessible art. He’s known for patience, clarity, and the kind of energy that pulls learners right into the soil.

“Joey was so engaging! He explained things in a way the kids really understood — and even I learned a few things about watering I didn’t know before.”

— Visitor review

❤️ Why It Matters

Ridglea Giving Garden doesn’t just grow food — it grows confidence and community. Each week volunteers plant, harvest, compost and use organic, regenerative practices to nourish both soil and neighbors. The garden donates harvests weekly to WestAid Food Pantry and LVT Rise Community Center in the Las Vegas Trail neighborhood—a model of food access in action.

In a city where food insecurity still touches many families, teaching kids how to grow, cook, and care is a powerful form of resilience. And as Joey reminds every visitor: it all starts with healthy soil.
