One Parent’s Review: Why the Gnome Salad Garden Workshop Was a 10/10

Explore Local Farms

A homeschooling mom shares why this Agri-STEAM experience in DFW was a perfect fit for her kids. From hands-on gardening to sensory play, here’s what made the Gnome Salad Garden Workshop a hit with learners of all ages.

“As a homeschooling mom and special needs parent, this was a 10 out of 10 Agri-STEAM experience for the kiddos! I highly recommend it.”

That’s how Dazie Diaz, a local homeschool parent, described her family’s experience with the Gnome Salad Garden Workshop. She recently joined a Field Trip Fridays outing in Flower Mound and shared her thoughts on what made the class such a hit.

🧠 What We Loved About This Workshop

“These were absolutely adorable. All the supplies are there. We learned how to transplant various plants into a pot and create your own garden.”

From transplanting salad greens to creating a gnome-themed garden, the workshop blended STEAM learning with sensory play. Kids explored plant science while decorating their own mini edible garden—complete with pebbles, edible flowers, and a gnome figurine.

🌸 Sensory Fun for Every Learner

“My little sensory seeker was all for it—play in the dirt and get hands-on. She was so excited to do this.”

For families with neurodivergent learners or kids who crave hands-on engagement, this class hits the mark. It’s calm, creative, and allows each child to work at their own pace—perfect for homeschool groups, scouts, or mixed-age activities.

🌈 All Ages Welcome

“Keep in mind my kiddo is 4 years old and was able to do this. This class was for all ages, and we had a lot of great opportunities here.”

From preschoolers to teens, everyone had something to do—and something to take home. As Dazie shared:

“She was so proud of her work. She couldn’t wait to show everybody what she did.”

🏞️ The Environment Made It Even Better

This session took place at a local park with space to explore before and after class.

“We loved being able to sit down and hear the ducks, the water, the wind, the kids laughing… It was really beautiful.”

Hosting outdoors isn’t required, but it’s a great way to turn the class into a full sensory experience.
