Every September, the U.S. celebrates National Honey Month — shining a spotlight on honey, bees, and the beekeepers who bring us nature’s sweetest harvest. The National Honey Board launched this tradition in 1989 to raise awareness about honey’s benefits and the critical role bees play in agriculture.
❓ Why September?
September is the heart of the honey harvest across much of the country, making it the perfect month to celebrate. In Texas, it’s when many beekeepers extract capped honeycomb and share the year’s golden crop (National Honey Board).
🐝 Harvest Season in Texas
September falls right in the middle of Texas honey harvest season. For many beekeepers, it’s the busiest time of year as they bring in frames full of capped honey and prepare for extraction.

🌸 Honey in Every Shade and Flavor
Honey isn’t one-size-fits-all. Its color and flavor vary depending on the flowers bees forage — from light clover to rich, dark mesquite. That means honey from one region can taste completely different from honey in another.

🍯 A Food That Never Spoils
Unlike most foods, honey doesn’t go bad. Thanks to its natural chemistry — low water content, high sugar, acidity, and enzymes from bees — it can last indefinitely. Archaeologists have even found jars of honey thousands of years old that are still edible.
