In Aurora, Texas, on a farm where pollinators buzz between blossoms and curious goats wander in the pasture, Moringa oleifera is taking root. For farmer and community leader Deb Terrell, moringa isn’t just another crop — it’s a bridge between her North Texas farm and growers around the world.
At Nature’s Circle, Deb raises moringa alongside dairy goats, bees, luffa, and butterfly pea. It’s a mix that reflects her mission: supporting pollinators, promoting wellness, and sharing agricultural knowledge across borders.
How Moringa Took Center Stage
Deb first heard about moringa from a Decatur farmer affectionately known as "Moringa Mike"
“I did my research, and within a month I was hooked,” she recalls.
Her interest went far beyond the hype. She recognized moringa’s nutrient profile — rich in vitamins, minerals, protein, and antioxidants — and saw it as a crop of the future that could thrive in Texas’s warm climate.
Within a few years, moringa had become a focal point at Nature’s Circle, not just for its health potential but for its ability to connect people.
From Texas to Africa — and Back Again
In 2025, Deb traveled to Africa to teach moringa oil production, working directly with farmers to expand their processing skills. There she works with an international “moringa team” that as of late 2025 had planted 900+ moringa trees.
Deb is also hosting a Nigerian grower for a farm stay at Nature’s Circle to learn about moringa and luffa.
In 2026, Deb plans to return to Africa, likely Sierra Leone and South Africa to continue training and collaboration.
Her global work builds on years of connecting with growers online — starting with the Luffa Farmers and Processors Association, a network she helped found to link pollinator-friendly crop producers worldwide.
A Farm That Experiments and Educates
Nature’s Circle is more than a production farm — Deb calls it an “Agricultural Experiment Station.” It’s where she tests ideas, adapts crops to the North Texas climate, and invites others to learn.
- Keyhole gardens help manage the extremes of drought and flooding.
- Luffa innovations like the Luffa Diffuser and ChiDamaLuffa (plants wrapped in luffa instead of moss) are market-tested locally.
- Goat cheese dog treats have earned a loyal following.
- Pollinator habitat is woven into the entire farm design.
In addition to selling at local markets, Deb also offers on-farm visits, where people can see moringa trees up close, taste the leaves, feel the texture, and have in-depth conversations.
Local Leadership, Global Recognition
Deb’s work has earned her both local influence and national recognition.
- Mayor Pro Tem & City Council Member, City of Aurora, TX.
- Board service with Promise of Peace Community Gardens.
- Winner of the Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Award – Science & Innovation.
- Featured in Close Up Radio, The National Digest, Marquis Who’s Who, Texas Farm Bureau, Voyage Dallas, and more.
- Known in North Texas as a trusted voice on pollinator-friendly farming and unusual specialty crops.
Why Moringa Matters Now
“This has been a very big moringa year,” Deb says. She’s seen growing interest from people looking for natural wellness options — and she says moringa offers a way to integrate nutrients into daily life without “popping pills all the time.”
She believes moringa’s future is just beginning in Texas. And by connecting local production to global networks, she’s helping shape that future.
